Family Birth Center Tour

Judy was in town this last Wednesday, so we ventured to the hospital and took the monthly tour of the Labor and Delivery Unit where Baby Hardy will make his/her debut.

Luckily, it happens to be the same hospital that I work in, so if I go into labor during the work day at some point closer to August, I can be wheeled right upstairs!

It's a..........

Ok, we had our ultrasound appointment yesterday and the tech was able to distinguish arms, legs, major organs, etc. We even got some really cool 3-d pictures of the baby! As of yesterday, the baby measured 6.5 inches from crown to rump and weighs 1 lb. 1 oz. As a bonus, we were able to find out the gender of Baby Hardy!

If you want to know, please click here or wait until 8/19/08 to find out!
Everyone is feeling good in Columbia - we also recently purchased our crib and matching dresser! See pictures below of the combo changer/dresser - we have not tackled the crib yet!

The Half Way Mark - 20 weeks!

Here is some cool information from our week by week emails about Baby Hardy:

"Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She's about 10 inches from head to heel - the length of a banana. A greasy white substance called vernix caseosa coats your baby's entire body to protect her skin during its long submersion in amniotic fluid. She's also producing
meconium, a black, sticky substance made of dead cells, digestive secretions, and swallowed amniotic fluid, which will accumulate in her bowels and end up in her first diaper. He can hear sounds by now – so talk to your baby often. Baby will even cover his ears with his hands if a loud sound is made near you, and he may even become startled and "jump". Your baby is moving often, too -- twisting, turning, wiggling, punching and kicking."

"The hair on his scalp is sprouting. If your baby is a girl, she already has 6 million eggs in her ovaries. This is a crucial time for sensory development: Your baby's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. He may be able to hear you as you talk. "
